NEXT SHABBAT RULES

Below are the NEXT Shabbat Rules. For general NEXT Shabbat-related questions, please see the FAQs. If you are a Moishe House resident, please refer to the Moishe House NEXT Shabbat Rules distributed to Moishe House directors and residents. Also, please remember that by participating in the NEXT Shabbat Program, you are agreeing to the terms of the NEXT Shabbat Program Release and Waiver

HOSTING ELIGIBILITY

To host a NEXT Shabbat meal, you must be a Taglit-Birthright Israel alumnus or former bus-staff (madrich or madricha) and a legal resident of the United States or Canada.  Current employees of Taglit-Birthright Israel, Birthright Israel Foundation, and Birthright Israel North America are also eligible to host NEXT Shabbat meals. Current employees of NEXT: A Division of Birthright Israel Foundation are ineligible to host a NEXT Shabbat meal unless otherwise permitted under the further terms of their employment.

Each NEXT Shabbat host is eligible to host six (6) NEXT Shabbat meals. Once you have hosted six (6) NEXT Shabbat meals, you are no longer eligible to host NEXT Shabbat meals. All eligible participants may host one (1) NEXT Shabbat meal per calendar month. The meal number that you are hosting is calculated based on all NEXT Shabbat meals hosted by you since the inception of the NEXT Shabbat Program (not from the date of this amendment to the NEXT Shabbat Program Rules).  If you have already hosted six (6) NEXT Shabbat meals as of October 24, 2011, you are ineligible to host any additional NEXT Shabbat meals.

MEAL REGISTRATION & PAYMENT PROCESS

You must register your meal no later than 3:00pm EST on the Friday of the Shabbat you wish to host. If you would like to receive a Shabbox, you must register your meal by 11:59pm EST on the Sunday before the Shabbat you wish to host so that we will have time to ship it to you. In the event that you hold a meal on a date which is not the date for which you registered your meal, you will be ineligible to receive payment.

As of December 4th, 2014: NEXT Shabbat meals cannot be held after calendar year 2014. The last date hosts can register a NEXT Shabbat meal is 12:00pm EST on Friday, December 26, 2014. The last date to host a NEXT Shabbat meal is Saturday, December 27, 2014. The final date by which hosts need to submit their photo and feedback form in order to be reimbursed will be two weeks (14 days) from the date of their meal. After this date all NEXT meals will be canceled and no longer eligible for reimbursement.

As of October 24, 2011: For your first three (3) NEXT Shabbat meals, NEXT will pay up to Fourteen Dollars ($14) per person for at least five (5) and up to sixteen (16) people in attendance at your meal, including the host (this does not apply to potluck-style meals; please see following paragraph for more information). For your subsequent three (3) meals, NEXT will pay up to Ten Dollars ($10) per person for at least five (5) and up to sixteen (16) people in attendance at your meal.  The meal number that you are hosting is calculated based on all NEXT Shabbat meals hosted by you since the inception of the NEXT Shabbat Program (not from the date of this amendment to the NEXT Shabbat Program Rules)

Beginning on February 7, 2013, potlucks will be allowed through the NEXT Shabbat program. To host a potluck meal during this time, please register through the NEXT Shabbat system and check off the "Potluck" box. Potluck NEXT Shabbat hosts will receive $8 a person for a minimum of 5 and up to 16 people, and the potluck meal will count towards their NEXT Shabbat meal limit of 6. All other NEXT Shabbat rules and reimbursement guidelines apply to this potluck program.

If you have any questions about your meal registration or payment process you can contact us at shabbat@birthrightisraelnext.org. Please note that we will only discuss registered meals and answer payment questions with the meal registrant him/herself and not with any friend or relative of the meal registrant.

Steps to register and host a NEXT Shabbat meal:

  1. Register at www.birthrightisraelnext.org/shabbat.

  2. After you register you will be able to access your own personal Host Center on our website.

  3. An optional invitation tool is provided upon completing your registration to invite your guests.

  4. Each NEXT Shabbat host is also eligible to receive a Shabbox upon registering for your first NEXT Shabbat meal.

  5. You may reschedule or cancel your meal date at any time by logging into the Host Center. Be sure to reschedule a meal before hosting it on a date for which you have not registered. In the event that you hold a meal on a date which is not the date for which you registered your meal, you will be ineligible to receive payment.

Steps required to receive payment:

  1. Print out your NEXT Shabbat Sign with your unique NEXT Shabbat number before your meal. This can be found in your confirmation e-mail and in your Host Center Profile. Each meal is assigned a new NEXT Shabbat number, so be sure to use the specific sign provided for your meal. If you cannot print out your NEXT Shabbat sign before your meal, signs displayed via I-Pads or Tablets with the Shabbat sign clearly loaded across the entire screen are also allowed. You must not use NEXT Shabbat numbers from past meals, as the meal will be ineligible

  2. Take one picture that includes ALL of your guests (one excluded as photographer), your meal, and the NEXT Shabbat sign which was made available to you. You must include all guests in the photo, as you will only receive payment for these guests. Your NEXT Shabbat sign and sign number must be visible and clear in the photo.

    1. If it is your practice to not take pictures on Shabbat, you must take a photo of your Shabbat preparations (e.g. your delicious food!), and your set table with place settings including your NEXT Shabbat Sign. The place settings must correlate with the number of attendees you are claiming payment for. If there is a discrepancy, your meal will become ineligible.

    2. Photos must include NEXT Shabbat signs as noted herein. Photos without NEXT Shabbat signs, with user-created (e.g. hand-drawn) NEXT Shabbat signs, or with NEXT Shabbat signs which have been digitally altered or added to the photo, will make the corresponding meal ineligible.

    3. Photos must include either all guests at your meal OR ample food preparations and place settings reflecting the number of attendees you are claiming payment for (e.g. 10 attendees, 10 place settings). Photos lacking such details will make the corresponding meal ineligible for payment.

  3. You will also be asked to provide us with the names and email addresses or phone numbers of each guest for whom you wish to receive payment. Any contact information you supply must be of the guest you wish to claim for payment.  There will be an opportunity during the payment process for you to include this information—make sure to have the names and emails/phone numbers ready when requesting payment!

  4. Please remember to save all of your receipts, as NEXT reserves the right to review your receipts in order to verify aspects of your meal.

  5. Following your meal, you will receive an email prompting you to visit your Host Center. You may log in to your Host Center prior to receiving this email if you are ready to submit your materials.

  6. At your Host Center, you will begin the payment process which will include submitting a Feedback Form and uploading your photo(s). Feedback Forms and photos must be submitted in order to be eligible for payment.

    1. You must complete and submit your Feedback Form and photo(s) within two (2) weeks of your NEXT Shabbat meal.

  7. You can expect to receive a check via mail within six (6) weeks of submitting your Feedback Form and photo(s). Please allow for slight variations in this time frame to accommodate for delays which may be caused by a high volume of meals. In the event that you have any concerns about your payment, please contact us at shabbat@birthrightisraelnext.org.
